This past weekend I jammed at Purple Hatter’s Ball, a music festival that honors the life of Rachel Morningstar Hoffman, the young college graduate who lost her life in a sting operation gone bad. In respect to her spirit and her family, police officers stay out of the festival. There was only one on the festival’s outskirts for the entire weekend but none entered the campgrounds. The fest is three days of jams, hippies, and nature. You’ll be sure to see many fluffy purple hats, similar to Rachel’s original purple hat that her mother, Momma Margie, wears. The fest is at Spirit of the Suwannee Music Park in Live Oak, Florida which is by far my favorite festival spot. I camped with friends, sipped on Jameson from a camel pack, got golf carted around, and danced with loving hippies. Because of the fest’s origins, there were touching and loving vibes seeping out of Suwannee. Momma Margie gave some of my friends a beautiful necklace for their help throughout the festival. My favorites for the weekend were Big Gigantic, Monozygotic (who is now being called Sir Charles), Papadosio, Green House Lounge, Catfish Alliance, and Emancipator had I actually stayed long enough to see him. On Sunday my friends and I lounged in the mushy sand of Swannee river and a few of us were awesome and jumped into the brown river off rope swings and docks 20+ feet high (little did I know that Suwannee River DOES have alligators in some parts… :O!). Good times. If you missed it this year, be sure to go next.
